A fire broke out at a temporary shooting setup at Mumbai’s Film City in Goregaon East on Monday, October 5, damaging electrical equipment and other production materials. No injuries were reported.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire was reported at 4:02pm near Reliance MediaWorks and behind Prime Focus Studio in Film City. The incident was classified as a Level I fire.
The fire was contained to part of a temporary structure housing a production control unit, according to the fire brigade’s preliminary report. Electrical wiring, cables, doors, wooden boards, air-conditioning equipment, bamboo and plastic materials, sound equipment and other production items were damaged.
Firefighters, police, BMC ward control officials and personnel from the 108 ambulance service responded to the incident. The fire was brought under control by 4:55pm.
Ashok Dubey, president of the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC) and general secretary of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), said the fire started on the outer shade of a temporary setup used for Pati Patni Aur Panga 2. Smoke also spread toward nearby sets, including Hustle 5 and Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The incident initially led to reports that the set of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana had caught fire. However, subsequent reports said the fire did not occur on the Ramayana set.
The fire disrupted production at nearby television sets. Reports said the Hustle 5 finale and Kaun Banega Crorepati shoots were halted temporarily as smoke reached the locations.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The cast also includes Ravie Dubey, Arun Govil and others. The Daily Star has previously used these spellings for the principal cast, while Filmfare lists Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
The film’s first installment is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release.
