Five Bangladeshi films have been submitted for consideration to represent the country in the International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
The submissions are Nurul Alam Atique’s Manusher Bagan, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s Roid, Redoan Rony’s Domm, Mohammad Touqir Islam’s Delupi and Monirul Akash Haque’s The University of Chankharpul.
According to a press release from the Oscar Bangladesh Committee, a 7-member committee has been formed to review the films and select Bangladesh’s official entry.
Zahirul Islam is chairing the committee, with Sajjad Sharif, Shaheen Dill-Riaz, Rashed Zaman, Opi Karim, Saiyid Shahzada Al Kareem and Shahrin Akter Sumi serving as members. The committee has received approval from the Academy.
The members will watch and assess all 5 films before reaching a decision through collective discussion and evaluation.
Bangladesh’s selected film for the International Feature Film category will be officially announced on September 27.
