Monchosharothi Ataur Rahman no more

Bangladesh’s renowned theatre personality, actor, playwright, and stage director, and “Monchosharothi” Ataur Rahman, passed away on Monday night. He was 84.

He breathed his last at 11:50pm while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

His body will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday from 3pm to 4pm for people to pay their last respects.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers at the open grounds in front of his residence at Ispahani Century Arcade in Moghbazar.

He will be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.

Born on June 18, 1941, in Noakhali, Ataur Rahman was regarded as one of the pioneers of Bangladesh’s post-independence theatre movement.

He received both the Ekushey Padak and the Independence Award for his contributions to culture and theatre.
