Iconic musician Shafin Ahmed was suffering from heart problems for the last 15 years, a condition that required him to curb flights. However, it was hard to stay away from performing for his fans all over the world. Shafin Ahmed flew from Bangladesh to the United States on July 9. The aim was to perform in different parts of the country.
A successful concert was completed before the artist’s health deteriorated. He was reportedly scheduled to perform his second stage show in Virginia on July 20. But before the event that day, he fell unconscious in a hotel room. He suffered yet another heart attack.
According to family sources, Shafin Ahmed had his first heart attack in India 15 years ago. It was a major attack. Then it stayed under control through regular treatment. After that, he suffered two heart attacks in Cox's Bazar and Keraniganj.
Elder brother Hamin Ahmed said: "On the day of the event (July 20), Shafin started to feel bad. Unable to control himself, Shafin fell down in front of the organizers in the hotel room. He was quickly taken to the hospital.”
Shafin felt a little better after the initial treatment at the hospital. Around 3:30am in the night the heart attack happened again, it was massive. He was completely unconscious for 5-7 minutes. After that an attempt was made to bring back his consciousness by performing CPR. Later, he was taken on life support. He never came back from there.
Born on February 14, 1961 to mother is legendary vocalist Feroza Begum and father composer Kamal Dasgupta, Shafin Ahmed grew up surrounded by music from childhood. He learned Nazrul from his mother and classical music from his father at a tender age.
Together with brother Hamin, he formed the wildly popular rock band Miles in 1979. Some of the most popular songs in the voice of Shafin Ahmed include Phiriye Dao, Jadu, Chand Tara Surjo, Jalla Jalla, Aaj Jondiman Tomar etc.
The legendary vocal/bassist had parted ways with his band, Miles, for good in November 2021, with an official announcement. This was after he had left Miles and joined back twice, once in 2010 and later in 2017. The finality of his latest departure was solidified when he started a separate band called Voice of Miles. For most fans, he was the voice of Miles.
On Thursday, July 25, around 6:50 am Bangladesh time, Shafin Ahmed breathed his last in the United States. His songs will live in the hearts of millions who were touched by his groundbreaking music.
