"Toofan" has taken Dhaka cinema by storm, and the song "Dushtu Kokil" from the movie starring Shakib Khan has gone viral.
On social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook reels, "Dushtu Kokil" is trending.
However, it’s not just the song’s melody or vocals that are capturing attention, but the vibrant presence of a young man in the song. With only a few seconds on screen, he has captured the audience's hearts, especially the young viewers, who are amazed by his expressions.
The viral sensation of the song is Manav Sachdev, who became a hit after appearing briefly alongside Mimi. The entire country now knows him as the "Dushtu Kokil boy."
In an interview with Dhaka Tribune’s Siam Sarower Jamil, the Kolkata native shared how he landed the role.
How are you and what are you busy with these days?
I'm doing well, thanks. Currently, I'm involved in several projects. I'm working on the south film "Uma" with Kajal Aggarwal. I'm also in a new Hindi film with Tinnu Anand, both of which are awaiting release. Additionally, I'm working on an OTT project with Radhika Apte.
How long have you been involved in acting?
It's been nearly 10 years now. I've previously worked in Srijit Mukherjee's film "Shah Jahan Regency" and appeared in the Star Jalsa series "Shaheber Chithi". Additionally, I acted in the Hindi serial "Rishton Ka Manjha" on Zee TV.
Do you live in Kolkata or Mumbai?
I'm a native of Kolkata. I grew up in this city, and both my parents are from here. I travel to Mumbai for work.
The song “Dushtu Kokil” is gaining immense popularity in both Bengals, especially in Bangladesh, with just a few seconds of video. How do you feel?
It’s amazing! I never imagined I would receive such a response. It feels quite unbelievable. I’m really overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from the people of Bangladesh and the way the song is being received on social media. Although I’ve done a lot of work before, I’ve never experienced this level of appreciation. I’m genuinely impressed and pleasantly surprised.
How did you get involved with "Dushtu Kokil"?
The offer came to me unexpectedly. Now, it's viral on social media with just a few seconds of footage. I was contacted at 5:30pm and asked if I was in Mumbai or Kolkata. After confirming I was in Kolkata, I received another call around 8pm. I started shooting with very little preparation. I might be in the song for about thirty seconds, and now, those thirty seconds have made me viral. I never thought it would turn out this way.
People from two industries are working together. Do you find any difference?
There was no noticeable difference. I didn't feel like I was working on a film from another country. I felt entirely myself. Collaboration between the two Bengals would benefit artists from both regions. It promotes awareness and fosters sharing.
How was the work of the Bangladesh side?
I didn't get a chance to see it. Before taking on this mischievous cuckoo role, I had only watched one song featuring Shakib Khan.
What was it like working with Shakib Khan?
It was an amazing experience. The moment I saw him on set, I realized why he's a superstar. There's something about him that you can't quite grasp until you see him in action. Working with Mimi was fantastic too. I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared the screen with both Shakib and Mimi.
Will you appear in "Toofan 2"?
Nothing can be said about Toofan 2. I don't know what the director is thinking.
Have you ever been to Dhaka?
I haven't been there before, but this time I feel like going. The love I received from the people of Bangladesh, I'm definitely planning to visit.
