'Pathaan' can be released in Bangladesh without restrictions

A total of 19 film associations on Sunday decided that there should not be any problems in releasing Hindi films in Bangladeshi cinema halls.

Hence, the much-talked-about and hyped movie “Pathaan” starring Shahrukh Khan Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, should not have any barriers to release in Bangladesh.

The film associations made the decision on Hindi movies after a meeting at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

They have also suggested that 10 Hindi films should be released in Bangladeshi theatres every year.

Previously, a conference held on January 24, regarding the release of the film concluded that “Pathaan” was not going to be released in Bangladesh due to some legal complications.

The conference was held at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The director of importation of 'Pathaan', Anonno Mamun informed Dhaka Tribune that: “Due to the complexity of laws, the movie will not be released any time soon. Apparently, there are two rules applied in case of importation of foreign films; one, no film from the sub-continent is allowed to be imported, and two, foreign films can only be imported if films from both sides are traded.”

'Pathaan' is a Bollywood movie which is directed by Siddharth Anand where Shah Rukh Khan played the role of an agent, along with Deepika Padukone and John Abraham was casted as the antagonist.

After its release, the movie smashed Indian box office records, bringing hope to Bollywood after a spate of weak showings.

‘Pathaan' recorded the highest-ever box office collections for a Hindi film for its opening and second day in India, and raked in 2.5 billion rupees ($30 million) in its first five days, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted Sunday.

Its international ticket sales soared past one billion rupees ($13.7 million) in just three days, according to Yash Raj Films, which produced the movie.

It comes after glitzy Hindi-language Bollywood films struggled at the box office following the reopening of Indian cinemas about a year ago after a pandemic hiatus.
