Ekushey Padak-winning actor and dramatist Masum Aziz has been laid to rest in his hometown, Pabna.
A namaz-e-janaza was held for Masum Aziz, after which he was buried at Faridpur Municipality Graveyard at around 8:30pm on Tuesday. People from all walks of life had gathered to pay their last respects to the actor.
Earlier in the day, his body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka so that people could pay tribute to the late actor.
At around 3pm, his family left Dhaka for Faridpur with his body for his burial.
Masum Aziz passed away at a private hospital in Dhaka on Monday.
The actor had been suffering from heart disease, said Faisal Hasan, senior information officer at the cultural affairs ministry.
He was admitted to the hospital for cardiac problems on October 3 and put on life support later as his condition had deteriorated.
Masum Aziz earned fame through acting on stage, in television dramas and cinemas.
He made his acting debut in the group theatre while studying at Chittagong University.
He acted in his first TV drama in 1985.
Masum Aziz acted in more than 400 dramas and films throughout his long, eventful career.
The actor was awarded the country's second-highest civilian award, the Ekushey Padak, this year for his remarkable contribution to acting.
In 2006, he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film “Ghani”.
