After calls to boycott “Laal Singh Chaddha,” netizens are now eyeing a boycott of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s upcoming sci-fi thriller film “Brahmastra: Part 1 - Shiva.” #BoycottBrahmastra is trending on Twitter, as trollers are alleging the cast of hurting Hindu sentiments.
Some netizens went through the archives and dug up actors Ranbir, Alia and Amitabh Bachchan’s previous portrayals in different films which hurt their religious sentiments.
Ranbir made a guest appearance in Aamir Khan’s “PK” as an alien, in which Aamir placed stickers of Hindu Gods on Ranbir’s cheeks for self-defence. Another clip from *Rockstar* shows the actor mocking a Hindu mantra. A decade-old clip also resurfaced on the interenet from an interview where Ranbir says he loves to eat beef.
Alia’s controversial advertisement for a clothing brand, in which, as per netizens, the ritual of Kanyadaan was portrayed as an oppressive practice also drew heat. Alia, in an interview, said "if you don’t like me, don’t watch me", which has gone viral on social media to support the #BoycottBrahmastra campaign.
Amitabh’s monologue from “Deewar,” where he was seen talking to Lord Shiva is currently getting trolled for allegedly disrespecting Hindu Gods.
Aamir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha” underperformed at the box office in light of the growing cancel culture. Ayan Mukerji’s, “Brahmastra: Part 1- Shiva” is slated for theatrical release on September 9 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam across India.
