Eminent actor Sharmili Ahmed no more

Veteran Bangladeshi actor Sharmili Ahmed has passed away at the age of 75.

She breathed her last at her Uttara home at around 8:30am on Friday.

Actor Shahed Ali confirmed the news to Bangla Tribune.

She had been receiving chemotherapy for cancer, Shahed said. “We had hoped that she would make a recovery.”

Fellow thespians and fans posted numerous tributes following the announcement of Sharmili’s death.

She would be laid to rest beside her husband in Banani, said her sister Wahida Mollick Jolly, who is also an actor.

Born on May 8, 1947 in Murshidabad, Sharmili Ahmed started acting in films in 1964.

She went on to star in around 400 dramas and 150 movies.
