‘Mujib - The Making of a Nation’ trailer released

The teaser trailer of the much-anticipated film “Mujib: The Making of a Nation” premiered at the 75th Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film Commercial Branch at the Indian pavilion on Thursday, May 19.

Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, hailed as one of the pioneers of Indian parallel cinema, is helming the buzzy Bangabandhu biopic, poster of which was officially unveiled earlier on the 102nd birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

One of the most anticipated releases of 2022, the biopic is slated to hit local and international theatres in September.  

The movie is based on a script by Atul Tiwari and Shama Zaidi, and is a co-production between the governments of India and Bangladesh.

The main cast includes Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role, Nusrat Imrose Tisha as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, and Nusraat Faria as their daughter Sheikh Hasina.

The trailer launch was attended by Shuvoo, Tisha, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud and others.

According to UNB, veteran actor Dilara Jaman will play the role of Bangbandhu's mother Sahera Khatun, actor Khairul Alam Sabuj will portray Bangabandhu's father Sheikh Lutfor Rahman, Shahidul Alam Sachchu as Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, Ferdous Ahmed as Tajuddin Ahmed, Tauquir Ahmed as Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Tushar Khan as Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah, Fazlur Rahman Babu as Khandakar Moshtaq Ahmed, and Misha Sawdagor as Aiyub Khan, among others.

Piya Benegal and Nitish Roy are in charge of costume design and art direction of the film, respectively.

Director and cinematographer Mohammad Hossain Jaimy is the line producer of the Bangladeshi unit and renowned director Giasuddin Selim is working as the dialogue coach.

Veteran filmmaker Shyam Bengal, hailed as one of the pioneers of Indian parallel cinema, is the recipient of the coveted Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. 

Earlier in his career, he made critically acclaimed biographical films on prominent political and cultural figures such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Satyajit Ray, and Subhas Chandra Bose.
