Prominent filmmaker Humaira Bilkis’ new documentary “Things I Could Never Tell My Mother” is set to premiere at the Visions du Réel documentary film festival.
It is the largest Swiss and one of the most prominent film festivals in the world, taking place every year in Nyon, Switzerland.
The 84-minute documentary has been selected at the ‘Latitudes’ section.
“Humaira Bilkis has a problem: after a pilgrimage to Mecca, her mother, who was previously an emancipated poet, has now become devout. The filmmaker must fight to get her to accept the camera, since her religion forbids images, while hiding her relationship with a Hindu man from Calcutta. Her film plays out like a romantic comedy,” reads the official synopsis.
Humaira Bilkis is a Dhaka-based independent filmmaker, notable for her documentaries “I Am Yet to See Delhi,” “We Came Walking” and “Bagania.”
