Masud Hasan Ujjal wins Best Director at Rainbow Film Festival

The 22nd Rainbow Film Festival was held in London from July 5 to July 11. The Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs inaugurated the event.

30 films from 14 countries around the world were screened over the course of the festival in three different venues. 

The award giving ceremony was held at the Rich Mix Cinema in East London. 

The playwright, musician, and independent filmmaker, Masud Hasan Ujjal won the Best Director award for his debut feature “Unoponchash Batash” at the festival. Due to the pandemic-induced restrictions, he could not attend the event in person.

Sharipa Urazbayeva bagged the Best Woman Director award for her debut film “Mariam.”

Former member of progressive band Meghdol, Ujjal is lauded for being a true all-rounder. Besides directing, he also wrote the story, dialogues, song lyrics and screenplay for the film. He executed the art direction, photography, music direction, and even the poster design.

Produced by Asif Hanif under the banner of Red October, the film stars Imtiaz Barshon and Sharlin in lead roles.

The supporting cast features Elora Gohor, Manosh Bandyopadhyay, Enamul Haque and Fariha Shams Sheuti.
