Three Americans from California who thwarted a terror attack on a French train in 2015, have been confirmed to play themselves in a Clint Eastwood film. Airman First Class Spencer Stone, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and civilian Anthony Sadler, all childhood friends from California, will play in Eastwood’s next The 15:17 to Paris, which depicts their heroics.
The film is based on a book, The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes, co-written by the three Americans about taking down a terrorist on a Paris-bound train, production company Warner Bros said in a statement. They will join a cast of seasoned actors including Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer and Ray Corasani in the film.
It revolves around the lives of the trio from childhood to the day when they helped subdue Ayoub El-Khazzani, who opened fire inside a train travelling from Amsterdam to Paris. They were on a vacation in Europe when they tackled the man, who had boarded the train with a Kalashnikov rifle, pistol and box cutter.
The 15:17 to Paris is the latest of Clint Eastwood directed films about real-life heroes after American Sniper and Sully.
It’s unclear of the men having any acting experience, however Skarlatos appeared on Dancing With the Stars soon after the Paris incident. It is common to give cameo roles to the subjects of films that do not require more than a line or two, but this case is nearly unprecedented in recent Hollywood history.
