Anita Pallenberg, model and actress who is best known for her relationships with members of the Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 73.
Pallenberg’s death was made public by her friend Stella Schnabel, daughter of painter and filmmaker Julian Schnabel, who said she had “never met a woman quite like her”.
“Go in peace my Roman mother,” Stella posted on Instagram.
Anita Pallenberg met the Rolling Stones in 1965, when she managed to sneak in backstage after a concert. This led her to a relationship with Stones’ guitarist Brian Jones, which soon turned violent. Later, she left Jones for Keith Richards, and the duo settled in London. The couple had three children though they never got married. After struggling with drug abuse, the couple later separated in 1980.
Pallenberg became a muse for the band during her time with the Stones. She delivered backing vocals for Sympathy for the Devil, and Mick Jagger admitted that the remixed tracks on the band’s 1968 album Beggars Banquet was based on her feedback.
In 1970, Pallenberg appeared in Nicolas Roeg’s crime drama Performance, along with Mick Jagger.
