After the phenomenal success of Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s debut film
Aynabaji, many have pondered on about could be the talented filmmaker’s next? Will it be able to create the same buzz like his first?
Interestingly, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is suggesting that the director is currently pursuing an adaptation of Mitali Perkins’,
Rickshaw Girl. The director was, however, mum about the entire thing and seemingly not interested in disclosing the details before everything is finalised.
Finally, Amitabh informed that he is indeed, directing Rickshaw Girl along with the news that former Quantico writer Sharbari Z Ahmed is onboard to write the film’s screenplay. The director also revealed that his team will start filming this year, however, they are yet to finalise the cast. Chowdhury hinted that the film’s cast might be a combination of local and international actors.
Written by the Indian-descent US writer, the novel revolves around a 10-year old Bangladeshi village girl, Naima who excels at painting designs called alpanas. However, she has to disguise herself as a boy to help her impoverished family, financially.
The New York Public Library picked Rickshaw Girl as one of the top 100 books for children written in the past 100 years.
