Bill Murray and Rashida Jones will reunite with director-writer Sofia Coppola in her upcoming, much-anticipated film On the Rocks, set in New York City.
Oscar nominated actor Bill Murray plays a larger-than-life playboy named Felix, who embarks on a hilarious but poignant journey with his daughter Laura, played by Rashida Jones, through the bustling New York City.
Laura, a Manhattan-based writer, suspects that her husband is cheating on her, which prompts the young woman to seek advice from her father. Felix, a debonair womanizer, suggests that the duo investigate the matter, which leads to a remarkable adventure through the city that never sleeps.
A24, the studio behind acclaimed films like Moonlight, Lady Bird, Ex Machina, The Witch and others, dropped the trailer on August 19. Coppola’s latest film is set to be released in theaters and on Apple TV+ in October.
In Sofia Coppola’s second feature film Lost in Translation, comedian-actor Bill Murray found critical success and scored an Oscar nomination for playing a fading film star, grappling with his mid-life crisis in Tokyo.
Rashida Jones previously worked with Coppola in her Netflix drama A Very Murray Christmas in 2015. When the director was workshopping the Lost in Translation script at an acting class, Jones also played the character that Scarlett Johansson was ultimately cast in.
Written and directed by Sofia Coppola, On the Rocks stars Fifty Shades of Black actor Marlon Wayans and Game of Thrones star Jessica Henwick in supporting roles.
