Kalankini Raadha, a Bangla folk song etched forever in our memory, was recently featured in Netflix’s latest sensation Bulbbul.
In the following days, many on Twitter have taken offense at the lyrics, claiming that Netflix is promoting Hinduphobia. Netizens are calling out all the derogatory terms used in the song, one of which defines Raadha as a ‘shameless hussy.’
Anushka Sharma, who produced Bulbbul, is being lambasted by fans for her alleged indifference towards Hindu sentiments.
Vikas Pathak, a former contestant on Bigg Boss 13, who is popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, was one of the first people to take to Twitter and write: “In Anushka Sharma’s Bulbbul, the web series, Lord Krishna and Radha has been insulted as bad language has been used against them. Will the government take any action against them? For how long will people insult our country?”
Earlier, he filed a police complaint against Ekta Kapoor for allegedly disrespecting the Indian Army in the web series XXX 2. “Why hasn’t Ekta Kapoor been arrested yet?” Hindustani Bhau asked on Twitter.
Soon, others followed suit. Another Twitter user wrote, “In the name of entertainment, BTown always comes up with such script and scenes which promote child exploitation & malign the image of majoritarian Hindu character and their deities.”
Some netizens also called out popular web series Paatal Lok, which was produced by Anushka Sharma as well.
“Anushka Sharma produces movies & series which hurt Hindu sentiments. First Pataal Lok & now Bulbbul. Hindus should be unite and raise voice against such type of series and movie,” writes a Twitter user.
Anushka Sharma has yet to comment on the controversy.
Telegu film Krishna and His Leela, streaming on Netffix, has also drawn criticism in recent days for allegedly disregarding Hindu sentiments.
