Mustafa Kamal Syed dies from Covid-19

Former deputy director general of Bangladesh Television (BTV) Mustafa Kama Syed has died of the novel coronavirus infection.

The 75-year-old served as the chief of programme at private channel NTV until his demise.

“He breathed his last at around 1:30pm at Square Hospitals Ltd in Dhaka,” Tamjid Sumon, a senior correspondent of NTV, told UNB on Sunday.

Syed was admitted to the hospital on May 11 with coronavirus symptoms and later tested positive, according to him. He has been buried at the Banani graveyard in Dhaka. 

Mustafa Kamal Syed started his career in television as a producer in 1967 in the then East Pakistan.

Later, he joined Bangladesh Television and retired as its Deputy Director General in 2003.

Since the inception of private channel NTV, Syed had been serving as its programme head.

He received the National Award for Best Music Producer of Television in 1975. Syed also received the Tenasinas Drama Award in 1994.

He has left behind his wife, renowned singer Zeenat Rehana, a daughter and a son to mourn his death.
