Father of Bangla Kheyal, Azad Rahman, passed away on Saturday at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital from a heart attack. He was 76.
He will be buried at Azimpur graveyard.
Azad Rahman is survived by his wife Selina Azad who is also a singer, and three daughters.
He was hospitalized for more than a month for other health complications, that his family confirms does not pertain to any Covid-19 symptoms.
His sister-in-law, Zakia Hassan confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about his demise, adding: “His daughters all live abroad and cannot attend his funeral because all flights have been cancelled during this pandemic.”
He won three National Film Awards. One for singing and two as music director.
The National Film Awards were for his music, Jonmo Amar Dhonyo Holo Ma Go and has given birth to several memorable songs including Dora Kata Dagh Dekhe Bagh Kena Jay, and Bhalobashar Mullo Koto.
Born in 1944 in West Bengal, he made his debut as a music director in Miss Priyambada (Kolkata, 1963). He was also a faculty at Stamford University.
