Bollywood veteran Rishi Kapoor passes away

Veteran Bollywood actor, director and producer Rishi Kapoor died while receiving treatment at a Mumbai hospital on Thursday.

The 67-year-old Indian National Film Award-winning actor was admitted to HN Reliance hospital after falling ill on Wednesday morning.  

Rishi Kapoor was suffering from cancer and some breathing problems for over a year.

He was first admitted to a hospital in Delhi while attending a family function. At the time, Kapoor said that he was suffering from an “infection”.

However, after undergoing treatment for cancer in the US for almost a year, the actor returned to India in September last year.

In February, Kapoor was hospitalized twice due to his health issues.

However, after his return to Mumbai, he was again admitted to a hospital with viral fever. He was discharged soon after.

Born in south Mumbai, Rishi is the second son of Bollywood legendry film director and actor Raj Kapoor. He did his schooling with his brothers at Campion School in Mumbai. His brothers are well-known actors, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor.

Rishi Kapoor debuted in his father's 1970 film Mera Naam Joker, playing his father's role as a child. He had his first lead role opposite Dimple Kapadia in the popular 1973 film Bobby which became an instant hit among youngsters. He made a popular pairing with future wife Neetu Singh in multi star films like Khel Khel Mein, Kabhie Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Duniya Meri Jeb Mein. The only solo hit of the Rishi Neetu was Rafoo Chakkar.

My most favourite picture with him. Worked with him twice n the kind of brash honest compliments this man gave have never left my heart n mind. Even in his bullying there was so much love that one couldn’t help enjoy listening to him. The most entertaining stories came from him. the only costar of mine who could beat me in being ‘brutally’ honest. Sir humaari hat-trick reh gayi. He also appeared in the British films Don't Stop Dreaming and Sambar Salsa. He was paired with Neetu Singh in the film Do Dooni Chaar in 2010. 

Rishi has acted in the movie Chintu Ji in which he plays himself. In 2012, he appeared in a villainous role in Agneepath and in the multi-starer Housefull 2 where he appeared with brother Randhir for the first time.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bollywood lost another National Award-winning actor Irrfan Khan to colon cancer.
