Aparna Sen recites rare poetry from home

Aparna Sen, the veteran West-Bengali film-maker and actor, has started conducting poetry sessions from her home for fans and followers on social media amid the nation-wide lockdown.

Calling herself a fan of poetry, she released a video on her Facebook profile on Friday where she was seen reciting a translation of Jibanananda's timeless poem Bonolota Sen of Natore.

She recited Jibanananda's In the Likeness of the Sun on Saturday from a slim volume in her possession which her father gave as a gift.

Her caption read: "We were very far from wealthy, but that was the wealth he (Aparna Sen's father) bequeathed to me."

On Wednesday, she recited a poem of Shakti Chattopadhyay that she translated into English herself in an attempt to introduce her fans to Shakti's powerfully transformative poetry.

The actor turned director's latest film Ghawrey Bairey Aaj premiered in November, 2019, and is now streaming on Hoichoi. The film stars Jisshu Sengupta, Anirban Bhattacharya and Tuhina Das, and is a modern retelling of Rabindranath Tagore's 1926 classic Ghare Bairey
