Downton Abbey stepping into the silver screen

Big news for the lovers of high living and posh accents. The Sun has recently reported that a Downton Abbey film is in the making. The filming is scheduled to start during September this year. The historical period drama series depicted the Crawley family and their household in Yorkshire in the early 1900s and ran for six seasons. The show was a critical success and garnered a huge fan following over the course of its run. Rumours of turning it into a film have been circulating since 2015. However, not everyone in the series is entirely keen to return to Downton, with the legendary Dame Maggie Smith speaking earlier this year about the possibility of a film. She said, “I just think it’s squeezing it dry, do you know what I mean? I don’t know what it could possibly be. It was so meandering... Anyway that’s not my problem. That’s the Lord’s problem.” The Lord in question is Julian Fellowes, the show’s creator who was apparently so eager for a film that he started writing it even before it was shown the green signal. Julian Fellowes is will be teaming up with producers Carnival Films to make the eagerly-anticipated film.
