The 26-year-old Oscar winner recently took to Facebook to share a video from the Represent.Us organisation, which works to eliminate political corruption in USA.
The video revolves around a mother talking about her 10-month-old daughter who underwent an open-heart surgery at St Mary’s Medical Center in Florida. The mother claims she was told that the surgery was necessary and it would help her daughter recover completely. However, her daughter died due to complications after the surgery.
Later, it was disclosed that the hospital has financial incentives for carrying out certain surgeries – like open-heart surgeries on children – so they push for the operations despite being aware that the surgeries are not in the best interest of the patients.
Sharing the video, Jennifer wrote, “I just watched this video from Represent.Us. It’s incredible and horrifying. And it got me thinking: corruption affects all of us, but so many people don’t recognise it.”
“We need to tell each other our stories. We need to show that everyone – our neighbours, our families, our community leaders – everyone we know is touched by corruption. I want to hear your story. How does corruption affect you? #WeDemandBetter Represent.Us/WDB,” the American Hustle star added.
