Renowned thespian and cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar received the Gandhi Memorial Peace Prize on October 10. The award is given by Gandhi Peace Foundation of India.
The award-giving ceremony was held in Naihati and was organized by the West Bengal branch of the foundation, in association with The Times of India.
Renowned Indian mime artist Bidyanath Chakraborty was also honoured with the prize.
Javed Ahmed Khan, Disaster Management and Civil Defence minister of West Bengal, was present on the occasion as the chief guest.
The ceremony was organized to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Aniruddha Majumdar, chairman of Gandhi Peace Foundation’s West Bengal branch, delivered the welcome speech.
Ramendu Majumdar also presented the Gandhi Memorial Lecture. The topic of his lecture was: “Mahatma and Bangabandhu: Two symbols of nonviolence.”
