Shuvro Dev earns Mother Teresa International Award

Eminent singer Shuvro Dev has been conferred the prestigious Mother Teresa International Award, by the Mumbai-based Harmony Foundation, an NGO that acknowledges the extraordinary work done by individuals towards peace and harmony. The Harmony Foundation recognised the singer’s unparalleled contribution to Bengali music through the award. The award has been handed over to the romantic pop singer on April 16 in a grand ceremony, which was held at the Institute Hall of Kolkata University. “I am really grateful to the award committee and everyone involved in the initiative. This is a pleasant occasion for me because the award is one of the most prestigious achievements in my music career,” said Shuvro Dev. The Mother Teresa Awards for Social Justice are conferred by the Harmony Foundation to people who have taken a stand against injustice and prevented oppression. This year, the foundation recognised a total of 32 personalities, where three of them are from Bangladesh, the others being FBCCI president Matlub Ahmed for his contribution in increasing business and work opportunities for the development of the country, and kingpin of the Green Delta group Nasir A Chowdhury for his social service given through his business organisation. The past recipients of the award include prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Nobel Laureates Dalai Lama and Malala Yousufzai, former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammed, and former Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan, President Dr Sima Samar.
