Netflix to stream two Farooki films

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki started the new year with a great news for both local film lovers and filmmakers like himself. The Television director posted on Facebook on April 15, revealing news of a deal between him and Netflix, the undisputed kingpin of global streaming services.According to Farooki, the American entertainment company that works as a global streaming media and provides online video-on-demand (VoD) service, has agreed to release two of his films, Television and Piprabidya, worldwide on May 15. Expressing the significance of the deal, Farooki wrote, “All of us know about Netflix. Some even say that platforms like Netflix or Amazon are the future of film and TV content. Despite the arguments surrounding it, the reality is that industries like Hollywood and Bollywood make hundreds of films every year but not all of these films get a worldwide theatrical release. Then how do people watch the rest of the films? What about independent films?” “This is why Netfilx became the kingpin of the global entertainment industry. They are not only showing films, they’ve already started producing them,” he added. Founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997, Netflix started out as a DVD sales and rental service. The company took a more profitable turn when it expanded its business and introduced streaming media online, retaining their original DVD and Blu-ray rental services. During 2015 only, Netflix made a record $6.78 billion in revenue. Farooki hopes that the giant VoD service will be producing content in Bangladesh. He requested, “Although, most of the filmgoers have already seen the films but I would request you to watch the films again on Netflix. This will inspire them to support more content from Bangladesh.” “I am sure that it will not be limited to buy content, Netflix will produce Bangladeshi content in the near future. When a road opens, it opens for all of us!”
