First look of The Last Jedi

The four-day convention named “Star Wars Celebration” unveiled the first-ever teaser trailer of The Last Jedi – the next episodic Star Wars film, on Friday. It looks like another planet-hopping war between the Resistance and the Empire is going to take place in the universe, that George Lucas gave birth to in 1977, with the release of the landmark space opera Star Wars. From the trailer, the first image we see with a haunting voice-over, is the face of Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, who gasps for air as if she had just been transported to the planet with the rocky isle, where she met Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, at the end of The Force Awakens. It shows Rey making rock particles that defy gravity, using the Force. A subsequent image of Rey shows her learning to use the light saber, under the gaze of another figure, presumably Luke Skywalker. In later images, the Resistance winged fighters explode as pilot Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, runs towards them. Finn, played by John Boyega, appears asleep in some sort of healing pod, while the Millennium Falcon swoops into the frame. Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, master of the Dark Side and the estranged son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, leads his soldiers into battle. In an ominous final note in the teaser, Skywalker declares that it is “time for the Jedi to end.” The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson, whose previous ventures include Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and the loopy time-travel saga, Looper. The action of The Last Jedi picks up precisely where the previous film, The Force Awakens, ended. Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern, newcomers to the Star Wars franchise, will appear in The Last Jedi in roles that have not been disclosed yet, but do not appear in the trailer. The hugely anticipated film is set for the Christmas 2017 release.
