To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s hit single "Space Oddity,” toy-maker Mattel Inc. unveiled a limited edition David Bowie Barbie doll on July 11, reports Billboard.
The collectible doll, sporting a striped metallic jumpsuit with matching platform red boots and cosmic accessories, symbolizes Bowie's bisexual alien messenger alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust.
The Bowie Barbie doll was created by Mattel in partnership with the 2019 David Bowie Archive under license to Perryscope Productions LLC/Epic Rights.
Fans can purchase the David Bowie collector Barbie doll for $50 on Mattel's website.
The singer, who died in 2016, had said that his classic 1969 single "Space Oddity" was inspired by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick's epic film "2001," released a year before Bowie's hit single..
Mattel also launched a doll of astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, the European Space Agency's only active female astronaut, as part of a project to inspire more girls to explore careers in science and technology.
