Scarlett Johansson slams Ivanka Trump

In a pithy interview session with Arianna Huffington at the eighth annual Women in the World Summit in New York City on Thursday, Scarlett Johansson called out Ivanka’s actions, or the lack thereof, as “cowardly” and baffling. “I can’t imagine how complicated it must be to see your parent in this sudden position that he is in, and know deep down, that it is a position that he never really wanted,” she told Huffington. “It must be a unique and strange thing, but she has an opportunity to really make a big impact just by being vocal … she is a very well-spoken and smart, intelligent woman … but the whole situation baffles me,” said the Ghost in the Shell actress. The ball started rolling after a recent interview with CBS in which Ivanka claimed she did not know what it meant to be “complicit”. Johansson ensured she learn the meaning by impersonating the eldest Trump daughter in a “Saturday Night Live” faux perfume ad called “Complicit” (“the fragrance for the woman who could stop all of this, but won’t”) and condemned her CBS News interview with Gayle King earlier this week. To explain her frustration with Trump, Johansson said, “(Ivanka) said…she felt that the greatest change she would make would be behind closed doors and nobody would actually know that she had made this change.” “How old-fashioned, this idea that behind a great man is a great woman. You can’t appear to be concerned that someone is going to think that you are a powerful woman. Screw that, it is so old fashioned and it is uninspired and actually really cowardly.” Ivanka has previouslty faced criticism after heralding herself as a “champion of women” amid both her father’s sexual assault allegations and his failure to improve the working conditions for women.
