Open Space Theatre is going to premiere their second theatre production, titled And Then There Were None, at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on July 25.
The play has been translated and adapted from the best-selling crime novel of the same name by Agatha Christie. M Arifur Rahman translated and directed the play.
Mahjabeen Chowdhury, one of the founders of the theatre group, told Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime that Open Space Theatre took permission from Agatha Christie Limited (ACL) to adapt the story for the stage.
ACL has been managing the literary and media rights to Agatha Christie's works around the world since 1955, when the company was set up by Christie herself. It is now chaired and managed by Agatha Christie’s great grandson James Prichard.
“This is really huge for us as we got permission from ACL, which is very rare,” said an excited Mahjabeen while discussing the production.
“We usually don’t change the time period in our plays. It helps the audience relate to it more,” she added. “We have special discount offers for our early bird audiences.”
Ashiq Rahman Leeon designed the set and lighting for the play, while Mahjabeen designed the costumes.
Open Space Theatre was founded by Arifur Rahman and Mahjabeen Chowdhury in January, 2017, with the aim of providing an open platform for everyone to practice theatre
