With great fanfare and enthusiasm, the National Film Day was observed at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation, on Monday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inagurated the day-long program in the presence of many dignitaries from the film industry including the likes of Razzak, Syed Hasan Imam, Amit Hasan, Omar Sani and Anjana Sultana, among others.
An initiative of the Ministry of Information, the day-long program opened with a colourful rally which was formed by Dhallywood stars and other guests.
In his speech, the “Nayak Raj” said, “Even in a joyous moment like this, I tend to think about the golden days of our film industry and I feel sorry. However, I am optimistic about the future of the industry. I believe that the new generation of artists, crews, filmmakers and producers are working hard to bring the audience back to the theaters. The golden days will be back.”
For the entirety of the day, BFDC was fillled with film artists and crew members. The venue was decorated with posters of old blockbusters, red carpets and various stalls.
Between the seminars, talk shows and a cultural show, the day was observed with numerous events including unveiling of souvenirs, red carpet receptions, interviews, photo exhibitions, film screenings and puppet shows. Planned and directed by SA Haque Alik, the day-long program titled Tarar Mela was aired live on ATN Bangla.
The day is significant because on April 3, 1957, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the erstwhile Minister of Industries and Commerce of East Pakistan, introduced a bill at the Constituent Assembly to eslablish a film development corporation in East Pakistan. To mark that day, April 3 has been observed every year as the National Film Day in Bangladesh.
