Bangladesh Cholochitra Sangbadik Samity (Bachsas) is set to celebrate 50 years of its founding this year.
To mark its golden jubilee, the Bachsas Awards returned after a five-year break. The 39th Bachsas awards were handed over at a gala ceremony held in the auditorium of the Bangladesh Film Archive Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital, yesterday.
This year, noted actor Alamgir was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Additionally, four media personalities—including Shuchanda, Syed Hasan Imam, Mirza Abdul Khaleque, and Faridur Reza Sagar—were awarded The Emeritus Awards.
A total of 50 awards, in different categories—including Best Actor, Best Film, Best Director and Best Singer—were presented at a grand celebration, among others.
The Association first introduced the Bachsas Awards in 1972. The motto of the award was "Creative films with a social commitment" and its symbol was a Royal Bengal Tiger.
The awards were presented regularly up to 1988. After a break of 7 years, the awards were reintroduced in 1995.
