Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Dhaka, organized an evening of Gurudev Rabindranath through Songs and Poems,” by Dr Nemai Mondal and Mira Mondal at Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum on Friday evening.
The two enthralled the audience with their melodious performance, knitted with Tagore’s songs and poems. On this occasion many eminent personalities of the Bangladeshi cultural fraternity expressed their appreciation for the artists and the event.
Dr. Nemai Mondal has been working with recitation for more than 30 years. He has participated in different workshops on recitation and pronunciation. He had his formal training under renowned recitation artist Wahidul Haque, Naren Biswas, Kazi Abu Zafar Siddique, Bhaswar Bandyapadhya, Kazi Arif, Progya Laboni, and many more. He is the only PhD holder on recitation in Bangladesh. His book “Aabritir Kalakoushal” was published by Bangla Academy in 1996 and to date many editions of the book have been published. His albums on recitation are “AnantoTrishna,” “Oitijjher Ongikar” and “Samprodaikata Birodhi Abriti Shangkalon.” He performs regularly on Bangladesh Betar, BTV, Tara TV Kolkata, and many other TV channels and Radio stations. Nemai Mondal is currently Head of the Department of Bangla Language & Literature, BRAC University.
Mira Mondal is a renowned Rabindra Sangeet artist. She has been practicing music since her childhood and her mother was her first teacher. After that she learned classical music from Ustad Nityagopal Saha of Narayanganj Sangit Bidyalaya. In 1992, she achieved first prize in “Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Porishad” at district level. From 1996 she has been performing Rabindra Sangeet on Bangladesh Betar and different TV channels including Bangladesh Television and Tara Bangla Kolkata. She has an album titled “Anek Kotha Bolechhilem.”
