Bono and the Obamas

The former US president and first lady, was recently seen having lunch with U2 frontman and activist, Bono and his daughter Jordan Hewson in New York City. The trio sat in a private dining room downstairs at Upland in Manhattan. A source revealed that, when Bono and the Obamas walked out of the eatery, “the whole restaurant stood up and applauded and cheered for them.” According to videos posted to social media, the Obamas were greeted with sweeping cheers and applause from diners. Since the meeting took place in a private setting, there’s no word on what the Obamas and Bono actually talked about. Bono has a long-standing relationship with the Obamas as his band also performed at his presidential inauguration in 2009 in Washington DC, and evidently their reunion was well-documented by dozens of fellow diners over the weekend. In 2010, the U2 frontman met Obama to discuss foreign aid and came out proud that he spoke with “the first BlackBerry president.”  A year later, Bono visited the White House again and played the Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood” for the then-president. After the incident, Obama tweeted: “How cool is this?” Last January, U2’s guitarist, The Edge, told Rolling Stone that the band was delaying the release of its upcoming album as a result of Trump’s election victory because “suddenly the world changed.”
