When big budget movies failed in Bollywood

Here are some movies which failed to impress the audience in India.  Roop Ki Rani Choro Ka RajaRoop Ki Rani Choro Ka Raja, starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, is said to be one of the biggest flops in Bollywood. When the film was released, it was said to be the most expensive movie at that time, but the box office result was completely contradictory, and it turned out to be a huge flop.AjoobaShashi Kapoor had to close down his film production company after he lost a big sum of money in Ajooba. Ajooba, starring Amitabh Bachchan, was a big budget film, which failed to make any impact on the audience.RGV's AagRamgopal Verma’s Aag is another major flop in Bollywood. It is also considered as one of the worst Bollywood movies ever made. It was a remake of Sholay, and Ram Gopal Verma succeeded in signing stars like Amitabh Bachchan as Gabbar and Ajay Devgan as Veeru. The film was criticised heavily and became a box office disaster.Ra OneThe film presented Shah Rukh Khan as a superhero, Kareena Kapoor as his love interest, and Arjun Rampal as the villain. The film was made with a huge budget of Rs130 crore, but failed to retain the cost as it earned Rs114 crore at the box office.AsokaPeriod film Asoka, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was equally criticised by fans and critics. It was a three-hour long movie, with stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, but proved to be a disaster at the box office.Love Story 2050Producers lost around Rs60 crore after making Love Story 2050, starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra. The film clearly made no impact on the audience.Bombay velvetBombay Velvet starred actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar, with a high profile director like Anurag Kashyap. Critics gave pretty good reviews about it, but the audience rejected this movie completely. It is believed that the total budget of this movie was Rs125 crore, and the film lost around Rs100 crore. This is the biggest flop film in the history of Bollywood, and can easily be called a disaster.DronaAnother Hindi film, Drona, starring Abhishek Bachchan, turned out to be a major flop in Bollywood. It was a star studded film, with actors like Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and others. The film got an average review from critics, but a very negative response from viewers.Khele Hum Jee Jaan SeAshutosh Gowarikar’s Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se garnered highly positive reviews from all the critics, including Bollywood stars. But the box office declared it to be among the biggest flops of Bollywood ever. PVR later confirmed that they didn’t recover even 10% of the cost of making the movie. Abhishek Bachchan was the lead actor, and many thought that an established actor and good marketing could have helped the film.RaavanAnother movie starring Abhishek Bachchan in the list of the biggest flops of Bollywood was Raavan. The film also included Aishwarya Bachchan, but made no positive impact on the audience. The film lost more than 50% of its money at the box office.GuzarishGuzarish, starring Hrithik Roshan is another movie on this list, which resulted in heavy loss for its producers. Although critics praised the movie and a section of the audience also liked it, especially Hrithik Roshan’s performance, but that made no difference in its box office results.  KitesDirected by Anurag Basu, it featured Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. Although the film received mixed response from critics, it failed to create any impact at the box office. It had a budget of Rs60 crore, but got a return of Rs49 crore only.RoyThis is another film starring Ranbir Kapoor, which also featured Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez. Directed by Vikramjit Singh, Roy was made with a budget of Rs40 crore, but could only collect around Rs44 crore.SaawariyaThis happens to be Ranbir Kapoor’s debut movie, starring Sonam Kapoor, and a special appearance by Salman Khan. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Saawariya made a box office collection of Rs36 crore, against a budget of Rs40 crore. l
