Bangladesh Children’s Film Festival kicks off on Thursday

Bangladesh Children’s Film Festival 2017, organised by Shilpakala Academy, will start on Thursday. Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival at National Art Gallery Auditorium at 5pm. Noted artist Mustafa Monwar, film organiser Munira Morshed Munni and Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Dhaka University Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury will be present as the special guests of the inaugration ceremony ceremony. The three-day-long festival will run simultaneously at all 64 districts in the country and will close on December 31. Liaquat Ali Lucky, the director general of the principal state-sponsored national cultural centre, will preside over the session. A total of 40 films, including both children’s film and films made by children, will be screened at the festival, a press release from the organising institution confirmed on Tuesday. The festival will also give awards for best films under the categories- Children’s film and films made by children, best film maker and a special jury award. A certificate of participation will be awarded to every participating filmmakers on the closing day of the festival. Aside from film viewing, two workshops on ‘Film Appreciation’ will be held on December 29 and 30 at 10pm. Another special seminar will be held at the seminar room of National Theatre on the second day of the festival at 4pm. Professor Dr Aminul Islam from the Drama and Dramatology Department of Jahangirnagar University will present the main article at the seminar. “Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has been relentlessly working on the growth and development of local films. It has been taking important measures toward a fair and clean film movement in the country,” said Liaquat Ali Lucky. He added: “To build a culturally enhanced and creative nation, specially to make creative children, film plays a pivotal role. In consideration of its abosolute importance, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has organised Bangladesh Children’s Film Festival 2017.”
