Veteran actor Partha Mukherjee dies at 70

After battling with old age complications for some time, actor Partha Mukherjee died at a Kolkata hospital on Monday.
Known for giving his all in both comedy and serious roles, at one time of his career, Mukherjee had become an automatic choice as the onscreen brother or son of silver screen legend Uttam Kumar.
Even though Mukherjee got his big break as a child artist in Chitto Basu’s 1958 film “Maa,” the actor had played an array of memorable roles in a number of Bengali films in the 1960s.
Some of his most notable works include “Balika Bodhu” (1967), “Dhonyi Meye” (1971), “Agnishwar” (1975), “Amar Prithivi” (1985), “Baag Bandi Khela” (1975).
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed grief over the beloved actor’s demise through a tweet. “Saddened at the passing away of veteran actor Partha Mukherjee. My deepest condolences to his family and fans,” she wrote.
