Jannatul Sumaiya Himi was supposed to be the first runner by default in the Miss World Bangladesh 2017, as she was announced as the second runner up in the competition when Avril was crowned champion.
But, the matter is a bit more complicated, as Himi was not mentioned among the top 10 participants of the beauty pageant.
The first runner up, Jessia Islam was declared the Miss World Bangladesh 2017 at a press conference held in the Westin Hotel of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The announcement came after
Jannatul Nayeem Avril was stripped of her Miss World Bangladesh 2017 title, on charges submitting false information to participate in the event.
Jannatul Sumaiya Himi was declared the second runners up in the grand finale held on September 29. Marks given by event judges then showed that Jannatul Nayeem received 51 marks, Jessia received 48, and Himi received 47.
However, during the press conference at Westin Hotel, the name of Fatema Tuz Zahra was announced as the first runners up.
Himi’s name was not among the top ten contestants, that was announced on Wednesday.
Himi was not even present at the programme. When contacted, the event organisers could not shed any light on the issue.
