The Terminator returns

Acclaimed film maker James Cameron has revealed that Terminator 6, which is yet to be given a title, will be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day by ignoring every film that came afterwards. This latest flick is set to be released in the summer of 2019. The last film of the Terminator franchise was Terminator 5: Genisys and fared badly with critics and audiences. In fact, the last three films of this franchise after Judgement Day were not able to fulfill the expectations of fans and did not do that well at the box office except Terminator 3, which however, is largely due to the high expectations that initially came with the announcement of a reboot. The new film will reunite Arnold Schwareznegger and Linda Hamilton aand will be directed by Deadpool director Tim Miller. Cameron is working on the script with a handful of writers like David Goyer, Charles Eglee, Justin Rhodes, Josh Friedman and David Ellison. So far, no plot details were shared but the idea is to pass on the torch to young and new leads through a successful storyline. That’s why it’s important that Hamilton and Schwarezenegger are back in the film after Judgement Day. “A lot of this is handing off the baton to new generation of characters. We’re starting a search for an 18 something young woman to essentially be the new centerpiece of these stories and a number of other characters around her and characters from the future,” Cameron said in an interview for Hollywoodreporter.com. Cameron also made pretty hursh remarks about the last three films on how bad they were while sharing his thoughts on the new one, “This is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and 2. And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline which is permissible in our multi-verse.” He added, “This was really driven more by Tim than anybody, surprisingly, because I came in pretty agnostic about where we took it. The only thing I insisted on was that we somehow revamp it and reinvent it for the 21st century.” No major franchise is ever really dead in Hollywood. The creators of Terminator had always pointed out the risks of artificial intelligence, and the new plot won’t be any different from that, we assume, but will have more relevant AI that belong in today’s world or the near future. Genisys included a nod to our reliance on smartphones but that didn’t make the film any better, so this time, scientists are being consulted in order to create a solid script. Director Tim Miller said, “The first films are more relevant today than they were when Cameron made them. A lot of it seems like prognostication because it’s coming to be the world we live in right now.”
