This November 5, 2017, in the lead up to COP 23 taking place in Bonn, Germany, Pathway to Paris in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme are organising a concert at Carnegie Hall with incredible musicians and leading thinkers to highlight the importance of making Paris real.
Singer, songwriter and activist Joan Baez will perform in this concert. The news was confirmed at the United Nations recently, during a press conference to preview the concert.
“I’m incredibly honoured and excited to be part of this event,” said Joan Baez. “Climate change is the issue of our time and it will take all of us – musicians, activists, policymakers and business leaders – to truly make a difference.”
The concert, set to take place at New York’s Carnegie Hall, will also feature speeches and musical performances from Bill McKibben, Dr. Vandana Shiva, Tanya Tagaq, Tenzin Choegyal and Pathway to Paris founders Rebecca Foon and Jesse Paris Smith.
The role of cities in reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change will also be front and centre at the concert, where Pathway to Paris will unveil further details on the ‘1,000 Cities Initiative’.
Rebecca Foon said, “Pathway to Paris is more than a name - it’s an ideal,” She also added, “Cities have a remarkable and necessary part to play in moving us towards achieving, and possibly even surpassing, the goals of the Paris Agreement.”
Jesse Paris Smith said, “1,000 Cities is built on the premise that if 1,000 cities come together and commit to becoming 100 percent renewable and transition off fossil fuels by 2040, we can turn the Paris Agreement into action. Pathway to Paris is committed to supporting cities to get there.”
Pathway to Paris will be announcing a new initiative at the event called 1,000 cities, inviting all cities of the world to transition to 100% renewables by 2040. All proceeds from the event will be donated to 350.org, Pathway to Paris and the UNDP.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has called on countries to present their respective instruments of ratification in New York on 21 September. To lend support to this initiative, Pathway to Paris and UNDP are organising a concert event on September 19 with incredible musicians and leading thinkers to highlight the importance of making Paris real.Source: Collected
