The famous Tagore song Purano Shei Diner Kotha has always been a public favourite. And very recently, musician Khayam Sanu Sandhi made a mashup incorporating bits of this song into his latest number titled Bondhur Jonno Gaan, a song that topped the chart of Top 100 Bangla Songs of 2015, presented by Radio Foorti. The distinguished musician has also had a good year, as he welcomed his new-born child just 18 days back. In a recent conversation with Showtime the singer, music composer and lyricist discusses his recent endeavours.
How are you doing these days?
I am working on my upcoming solo album. This is going to be my first ever solo album. So I am putting in all the effort that I can. I am nurturing it with more time and care, so it might take a while before it’s released.
What kind of music should we expect from this album?
It is an experimental one with a blend of a lot of flavours and components. Earlier, I have released albums in 2011 and 2012. Over time, the taste and expectation of audience have changed. I am already done with four tracks of the album and one of them titled Bondhur Jonno Gaan was played on Radio Foorti. But I should have released a music video of it. Audience like it more. My plan is to release one or two new tracks in the upcoming months, each with a music video and finally release the album in June.
What kind of new flavours are you bringing into this album? Have you decided any name for it yet?
The name is not decided yet. However, the tracks will be blends of different genres. For example, I have used choirs, I have blended one Tagore song in the track Bondhur Jonno Gaan which topped the chart presented by Radio Foorti.
You became a father this year? How would you describe the experience?
It was an overwhelming experience. She is 17-days-old. Her name is Sanskrity Sanu. With her arrival, it’s been a little difficult finding the perfect work-life balance. My wife is currently staying at her parent’s place in Dhanmondi and my house is in Moghbazar. So after recording all night, it gets a bit tiring to go there, but I believe eventually I will get accustomed to this. Also, my in-laws are very cooperative.
