Financial data recovery centre to be set up at Jessore software park

The government has decided to set up a Disaster Recovery Site (DRS) centre at the Software Technology Park in Jessore to protect data of the banks and financial institutions, official sources said.

Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) will provide the financial assistance to set up the DRS.

Sources in the Banking and Financial Institutions Division (BFID) said the state-owned commercial banks will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICT ministry in this regard.

The DRS centre would be set up with joint venture as it is too costly for one business entity to establish.

Now, each of the financial institutions has their own data centre.

Secretary of ICT ministry Md Nazrul Islam Khan held an inter-ministerial meeting recently on setting up of the DRS with the representatives from Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Rupali Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank and Sadharan Bima Corporation.

The meeting decided to set up the data centre as soon as possible as the Prime Minister already gave her consent to the project.

Rupali Bank and Sadharan Bima have already expressed their interest to invest in the joint venture project, sources said.
