College authority cut down branches of 50 trees

Branches of huge trees were cut on the Barisal Government Brojo Mohun College premises in last two days.

After visiting the campus, it was found that branches of more than 50 Mehgani, Chambal and other types of trees were cut that might jeopardise their survival.

Prof Fazlul Huq, principal of the college, said the college authourity had ordered to cut the branches for making space for passing of sufficient air and light into the campus.

More than 250 saplings of different types of flowers would be planted instead of the huge trees for the beautification of the 114 years old campus, the principal added.

Raju Ahsan, a student of the college, said the branches of the trees were cut in a way that they might die.

Trees supply us oxygen and planting and saving trees was more important than the beatification of the campus by planting flower-saplings, said Nazma Akhtar, another student.

One student, willing not to be named, said the branches were cut down in a planned way in order to steal the trees after they die.

A vested sector carried the act being patronised by the corrupt college authority, said the student.
