The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist cautionary signal 1 due to a depression that was formed over the Southwest Bay and adjoining areas.
A Met office bulletin said: “The depression over the Southwest Bay and adjoining areas was centered at 9am on Saturday about 1620km southwest of Chittagong port, 1555km Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1550km South-Southwest of Mongla port and 1530km south-southwest of Payra port.”
It is likely to intensify further and move in a Northwesterly direction, reports UNB.
The bulletin further stated that maximum sustained wind speed within 48km of the depression centre is about 50kph rising to 60kph in gusts/squalls.
Sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre.
All the fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised not to venture into the deep sea.
