The Department of Environment (DoE) has sealed off a paper manufacturing enterprise in the Chittagong city on account of polluting the Halda River.
The DoE sealed off the paper mill and ordered it to suspend productions until it obtains an Environment Clearance Certificate (ECC) and Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
Chittagong DoE Director Azadur Rahman Mollick gave the official order on Sunday.

The enterprise, located at Bayezid Bostami Road of the port city, has been running factory productions without obtaining ECC and ETP since 1994.
On several occasions, the DoE slapped Tk49 lakh in total as fines on the factory for discharging untreated liquid waste into the Halda.
Earlier, the DoE ordered the errant paper mill to relocate their enterprise to any other industrial zone by February 2017. Failing to comply with the DoE order, the paper mill prayed for time extension and promised to install ETP in the existing factory.
But the factory is yet to set up the ETP.
