With Bangladesh currently facing numerous economic challenges, it is important now, more than ever, to focus on strategies that have long been established to have positive outcomes.
Among these strategies, strengthening bilateral relationships with other nations will continue to be important; at a time when Bangladesh is at such a critical juncture in its development as a nation, improving our diplomacy is crucial.
To that end, Bangladesh and Kuwait, two nations that have long shared cordial diplomatic ties, looking to enhance bilateral relations is a positive development, with newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Bangladesh Ali Tunyan Abdul Wahab Hamadah welcoming the idea placed by Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin that Kuwaiti investors could take advantage of investing in Bangladesh’s agro-based products and food processing sector.
Kuwait has long been an important partner for Bangladesh, particularly when it comes to labour and trade, with many Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait having significantly contributed to both countries' economies, with remittances from the Bangladeshi diaspora continuing to be a crucial pillar of the nation’s economy.
Bangladesh also needs to focus on boosting agricultural productivity and establish more sustainable farming practices, and therefore the particular focus on food security initiatives would mark an important new arena of collaboration. Bangladesh’s growing population necessitates more innovation when it comes to ensuring food security, and Kuwait could well be a major partner in ensuring we do not face any challenges in this avenue.
To that end, we expect the relevant authorities from both nations to work towards facilitating the potential initiatives proposed, and take diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Kuwait to greater heights and unlock a new, prosperous chapter in this relationship.
