On the right track

That the Chilahati Express was inaugurated by the prime minister on Sunday is certainly a reason to celebrate. Given that train services have been in demand for over 50 years by the residents of Nilphamari, this is certainly one for the history books.

The new passenger train, that will run on the Chilahati-Dhaka-Chilahati route six days a week, will meet the direct rail service needs of Nilphamari residents. The intercity train has a capacity of 800 passengers and is equipped with modern facilities, which is in line with our goals to improve communication across the nation.

Connectivity has been an utmost priority for Bangladesh ever since our independence, and an integral part of that is the development of our railways. With initiatives like the Chilahati Express, the recently initiated Metro Rail, and the 740km of new railway tracks that have been established in the last 14 years, we can expect not only an elevated network within the nation, but also a myriad of opportunities for economic development.

That our government is committed towards bettering our train facilities, with a string of commendable tangible outcomes in recent years, is proof that we are on the right track.

Along with the establishment of new trains, at this stage of our development, we must also direct our efforts towards ensuring safe railways and modernized resources. With more train services in the works, the overall health of our railway sector must be prioritized, along with the remodeling of existing railway systems.

Bangladesh has proven time and again that it is dedicated towards building a sustainable future for all its people. If we continue to direct our resources towards tenable projects as such, we can expect to realize our goals in the immediate future.

To that end, we are certainly on the right track.
