Strengthened ties with Japan

It is encouraging to see that the relationships we have fostered as a nation for decades are now being taken to newer heights.

During her ongoing official visit to Japan, on Thursday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed plans to elevate bilateral ties with Japan to a strategic partnership. The leaders of the two friendly nations are in talks of extending current business and investment opportunities in order to further strengthen their 50 year old friendship.

Japan has been an integral ally to our development over the last many years, and it is with the help of their financial assistance and expert advice that we continue to move forward with our development and economic infrastructure.

As per the prime minister, Bangladesh is on its way to transform into an economic hub in the region that facilitates easier access to regional and international markets, and more Japanese businesses in the country could greatly benefit both nations.

As an assurance of continued support as we graduate from our least developed country status, it is reported that Japan will provide 30 billion yen to Bangladesh, which will undoubtedly aid our future goals.

With a number of large-scale projects in the works, Japan's technology and expertise in the field will ensure that the plans not only see the light of day, but are also successfully executed.

It is also good to see the two nations negotiating terms on the transfer of defense equipment and technology, following the memorandum of cooperation and exchanges formulated between the defense authorities of both parties.

Japan and Bangladesh have been strong allies for five decades, and considering their shared focus on establishing peace and stability, improving economic cooperation, and expanding cultural cooperation, the elevated partnership is expected to be mutually beneficial to both countries for decades to come.
