Bangladesh has shared a solid friendship with the US for decades now, and considering all that lies ahead for our nation, this is a friendship that warrants being strengthened further.
To that end, it is encouraging to see these sentiments echoed by the US Department of State counsellor ahead of his visit next week. The counsellor expressed their interest in deepening ties with our nation, considering the potential collaborations in various sectors.
The two democracies have a number of common areas which, with due cooperation, can prove to be beneficial for both nations.
Representatives of the two friendly nations are also expected to discuss further the repatriation of the Rohingya refugees, which has become an increasingly strenuous issue for Bangladesh over the years.
The US has conveyed concerns on this issue in the past, and support from an influential nation in this regard will be crucial in resolving the current humanitarian crisis.
Bangladesh has done a commendable job of fostering long-lasting friendships with a number of countries, and the one with the US is certainly one that will be favourable to our development.
The upcoming meeting between the two countries is promising, as it is a chance to explore more avenues of cooperation and deepen diplomatic ties.
Despite unfortunate hiccups in the friendship that came along the way, it is safe to say that, with the approach currently being demonstrated by both countries, Bangladesh and the US can be well on their way to achieving a stronger bond in coming years -- and that is something worth looking forward to.
