In another remarkable demonstration of the country's rapid growth, 100 bridges were simultaneously inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina across 25 districts on Monday.
At the inauguration, the PM voiced her expectations regarding the 100 bridges -- worth over Tk879 crore -- acting as an influential component in speeding up the country's development process.
This can potentially open doors for us to progress further as a nation; the bridges will help facilitate direct road connectivity between Dhaka and various other districts, which will not only make the transportation of goods easier, but will also ensure quicker disaster management and public safety services for all.
Improved accessibility within the country can no doubt aid us in utilizing all of our resources to propel the economy forward. Initiatives like these form the foundation for the sustainable development of a country, and are a clear indication of the long-term planning required to achieve our ambitions as a nation.
However, while this is, indeed, a promising development, it is vital that the government and relevant authorities continue to devote their attention towards further planning and proper implementation of resources and funds, so as to reap the most benefits that the bridges have to offer. In the past, concerns have rightfully been raised regarding the unchecked nature of developing our infrastructure without offering sufficient rationale, and we cannot afford, at this juncture of Bangladesh's development, for us to be guilty of this any longer.
With the ongoing global crises and the future of the economy up in the air, it is encouraging to see that we are taking measures to strengthen our long-term economic standing. With proper planning and strategies in place, we can certainly hope to be closer to our development goals.
